Journalism in Venezuela: interview with Pierina Sora
Pierina Sora is a Venezuelan journalist born in Guatire, in the state of Miranda. She has a Bachelor’s degree in journalism at the Andrés Bello Catholic University (Ucab), in Caracas, and her work includes reports on human rights, migration, and gender. In 2018, because of the political situation and the economic crisis, she left her home country and decided to live in Lima, Peru. However, she remains involved in efforts to rebuild Venezuelan democracy.
Together with her colleague Héctor Villa, Pierina conceived the Cápsula Migrante project, an online initiative that aims to inform and integrate migrantes from the Venezuelan community that live in Peru. In addition, Pierina works as an editor for a portal specializing in career and professional reputation.
Her experience in the press includes a stint in the prestigious Red Latam de Jóvenes Periodistas de Distintas Latitudes, and her reports have been published in different media, such as the Revista de la Universidad de México, and digital platforms like Distintas Latitudes, Venezuela Migrante and Cinco 8.
